Day Thirteen - The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread?

Sliced bread is dangerous!!

It's oh so easy to pull out a slice and toast it ... just because you fancy a slice.  Would I have had this very early morning slice of toast if I had had to get out the bread knife and the chopping board, I think not.  I would have waited for my weetabix.

No wonder the National Loaf was unsliced and often quite stale, less temptation to eat it just for the sake of eating it.  Or maybe I'm just lazy.  😁

My main breakfast after the temptation of earlier.

Double breakfasting was a good idea though really, because soon after eating my weetabix we had to hit the road at 6.20am to get to Mum's before the cleaning company came to give her little bungalow a deep clean.  We could not have left her on her own to supervise this so soon after coming out of hospital.

The rest of today's food was bought on the road to Mum's and while we were there.  Not on the ration, but I'm classing it as eating out at the British Restaurants.

Yet another brilliant little YouTube film.

  1. One reason why my freezer is out in my shed is that I think twice before doing exactly that (or an equivalent). :-)

That was a very early start and I hope all went well. xx

    1. It went really well thank you. It was a massive upheaval but the two guys that were doing all the cleaning followed Alan's instructions to the letter and did a fantastic job. After they had gone, we got everything back to normal and then me and Mum sat marvelling at the shiny surfaces everywhere while Alan had a well-deserved snooze before we set off for home.

  2. A friend of mine finds a sliced loaf of bread absolutely impossible to resist, therefore they interleave the slices with squares of baking parchment and freeze the whole lot. Having to think in advance to get 1 or 2 slices out and allow them to defrost helps, apparently.

    1. Oh, that doesn't work for me, I usually freeze my loaves, and after smooshing them slightly before putting them in the freezer to loosen the slices, I can out a single slice whenever I want one, and as the toaster toasts them perfectly from frozen it makes it oh so easy for me to have a slice of toast whenever I want one ... usually!! Of course, now my butter ration limits how often I could do that, which can only be a good thing.

  3. Sliced bread is always better for me because it's portion controlled. I'm hopeless at slicing bakery loaves evenly! It's usually too thick, too thin or a mixture of both :)

    1. I still need to perfect my bread slicing, I am either thick at the top or bottom ... never, ever even!!

  4. I’m a bit of a toast fiend and love to try all kinds of bread. Glad the deep clean went well-I could do with paying for something like this for my own house. Catriona

    1. There's just something so satisfying about hot toast isn't there, I even like it unbuttered straight out of the toaster. :-)
